The Orphan I Am Chronicles – 131

la liberte’ d’ expression

By now all of you have seen/heard of the tragedy that took place in Paris, France at the offices of, Charlie Hebdo which took the lives of ten of its journalist as well as the lives of law enforcement officers who rushed to protect these journalists right of ‘freedom of expression/speech’. In a futile attempt to dictate what should or should not be permitted to be published ,in a medium which did so by satirical cartoons, these spineless, gutless cowards who branded assault weapons somehow had the illusion to think for even a second that by their disregard for life and the freedom of expression, that we writers would wither away, that we would raise our white flags and declare, we give up.

Seriously? Come on now, do you really think that your pieces of lead with your cowardice that you could be mightier than pen and paper?

paperandpen  We writers, artist, musicians, cartoonist, at the youngest of age we grasp at something for which we can express ourselves, whether it be a crayon, pencil, pen or paintbrush, our hearts and thought magically run the length of our arms, through our fingertips onto our own selection of canvas. We are relentless we writers, we fade away as if in hibernation but nothing can be further than the truth, we are merely creating.

These pens which we hold so passionately are but our ‘paintbrushes’ but it is through the unforgivable actions as of those taken place in Paris today that our pens now become more than tools, they now are our weapons.

I have been most fortunate to have visited Paris, France as well as many other areas throughout France. I have met many who are proud of their heritage, their culture, their own ways of doing things, their way. My heart goes out to the victims, those killed, injured, to their families and friends and their coworkers. To the citizens of France, my friends, you all have a friend here in me. What has taken place there affects us writers everywhere, we are united, we are unrelenting and we will get passed this and our pens? Our precious pens, these extensions of our hearts, thoughts, dreams, concerns, heartaches, have become even more powerful now, we can’t be stopped, we won’t be stopped, we writers will rise above this, it is our passion.
